Now that we’re into mid January, the new year is really starting to pick up and some of our new year’s resolutions are beginning to fall by the wayside. Committing to new habits and “resolutions” is difficult so I usually prefer to embrace a balanced lifestyle and live with positive intentions rather than feel like I’m “failing” to achieve my goals each time I falter. Does anyone else feel like this?
I believe living with intention and embracing self care can be so beneficial, not only physically and mentally but also spiritually. And the added benefit is that when everything is aligned, my productivity soars! Here are five of my favorite ways to stay happy, healthy and focused so I can stay stress-free and organized while I plan weddings and events across multiple time zones.
You have the power to begin each day with a positive mindset so it’s important to put in place an easy and enjoyable morning routine that will help you set off on the right foot. I always begin my morning with a big glass of lemon and ginger water to kickstart my metabolism, hydrate after a long night’s sleep and get some vitamins and minerals to help me stay healthy. Although you can enjoy water in whichever way you prefer, I like to start my day with room temperature water and let some fresh ginger infuse it overnight. Then, in the morning, I squeeze half a lemon into the glass and enjoy my “cocktail”!
One of my favorite ways to calm down and feel regenerated is to meditate, even if it’s only for 15 minutes. I use Buddhify, a guided meditation app, first thing in the morning or at nightime if my mind is racing and I can’t fall asleep. I also really enjoy going on a walk and listening to a guided meditation which helps me clear my mind and relax. Meditation is something that has helped clear my mind, relax, calm down and helps me feel regenerated in just a few minutes. There’s a reason so many people are raving about its benefits!
Take A Walk
A brisk walk is a great way to get the blood flowing and to change your state of mind. When I’m stressed, I always make sure to step outside and talk a walk while listening to some music to put me in a good mood. I’m a beach person so I love to walk along the shore but if I’m in a city I also love to feel the energy of a buzzing metropolis. I make sure to turn off cell phone service so I can really zone out and focus on my music without interruptions.
Join A Pilates Studio
I try to go to Pilates three times a week because it makes me feel so wonderful. This gentle form of exercise really strengthens my body and has helped me with my back and posture, essential for working long days that can be physically taxing but also for making a good impression with your clients (our nonverbal communication sends many cues and you want to make sure to be as persuasive as you can). Pilates also teaches you how to breathe deeply and gives you increased energy so it’s the perfect exercise for body and mind.
Read Inspiring Books
A good friend recently gifted me Shannah Kennedy’s “The Life Plan” book and it has already worked wonders in my own life. This really should be the book of your life, not just a life plan, and I think everyone should read it. Well written and easy to follow, it helps you discover who you are, what you want and how to find clarity. It’s not always easy to prioritize yourself but “The Life Plan” offers guidance to help you stay focused on your ultimate goals so it’s an essential reading for any entrepreneur who wants to be successful and achieve her dreams in 2019.
